Panty Schmooze 2004
The ‘Schmoozers’ were at it again. Due to the great response to the initial event, this year the Panty Schmooze would support two shelters; Women’s Habitat and Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter.
Supporters arrived early, eager to be one of the first 100 people through the door in order to receive their “goodie bags”. Cost of admission was $30 or 5 pairs of new underwear.
The evening featured performances by Toronto band half full, Warner recording artist Matthew Barber, and 2004 Juno nominees, Shaye ( Kim Stockwood, Tara MacLean & Damhnait Doyle). The ladies from Shaye also acted as hosts for the evening raising not only awareness to the cause but much laughter with their entertaining “panty” skits.
Donations to the shelters included $2,000 in cash, over 1,000 pair of new underwear, new children’s footwear, new ladies’ shoes, pizzas, bath and hair products, assorted lingerie, movie passes, health and beauty aids, DVDs, coffee, CDs, and a new 27″ flat screen TV and Sony Dream System. All proceeds were divided between the two shelters. Ernestine’s received the TV and Dream System as Women’s Habitat had received one the previous year. Over 2,000 pairs of new women’s shoes were received; far too many for just two shelters, so those items were distributed to various shelters throughout the city.
Again this year the door prize list was impressive. The “I gotta win that” item of the night was two tickets to see Madonna in concert. Other prizes included DVDs, gift certificates, spa packages, a cell phone package, cosmetics, art and assorted gift baskets.
The venue, food and all production equipment were all donated. 100% of everything raised goes directly to the shelters. The Panty Schmooze prides itself on having a 0% overhead.
